Police Log

  • Driver tossed from car that flips off highway: A 16-year-old Julian resident was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital after a one-car accident Wednesday afternoon.

    Mark Hall was traveling west on Route 3032 at 2:30 p.m. when his car went off the right side of the road, state police at Philipsburg said. When Hall tried to turn his car back onto the road, he lost control of his car and it flipped, police said.

    Hall was thrown about 20 feet from the car, police said.

  • Rockview police investigating alleged jail break preparations: An inmate, being held at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview, is under investigation for allegedly making "implements for escape," state police at Rockview said.

    On March 7, the inmate was discovered by prison personnel sharpening carriage bars into spikes, police said. No further information was available and an investigation is continuing.

  • Police looking for tombstone find illegal alcohol possession: An anonymous tip to University Police Services about a gravestone in a Beaver Hall room resulted in a liquor law citation early yesterday morning.

    Police said they received a call at 12:51 yesterday morning from an anonymous female that a gravestone was in her room. Upon investigating, police found the stone and alcoholic beverages in the room.

    The resident was issued a citation for the liquor law violation.

    The gravestone was reportedly taken as part of a fraternity prank, police said, and an investigation is continuing.

  • Burglary: A $200 amplifier, belonging to Michael Middleton, was taken from his residence at Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, 321 Fraternity Row, sometime between March 3 and March 11, State College Bureau of Police Services said. Police found no signs of forced entry.

  • Burglary: A $300 remote-control Sharp television set, belonging to Fred Parra, was taken from his residence at 340 E. Beaver Ave. sometime between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. yesterday, State College police said. There was no indication of a forced entry.

  • Burglary: Seven tennis rackets and two lacrosse sticks, valued at $714.80, were taken from Action Sports, 120 E. College Ave., sometime between Tuesday and yesterday, State College police said. A back door was found forced open. Police said an investigation is continuing.

  • Theft: An antique one-fourth to one-half carat diamond ring was taken from a car belonging to David Curran, RD 2 Port Matilda, about noon yesterday, State College police said. The car was parked at 200 S. Fraser St.

  • Theft: A yellow with pink trim 10-speed bike, belonging to Kieran M. Taylor, 220 1/2 S. Fraser St., was taken from his front porch sometime between 1 and 8 Wednesday morning, State College police said. The bike was valued at $420.

  • Theft: A 1978 Chevy Nova, belonging to Colleen L. Ross, 700 Torry Lane, Boalsburg, was taken from her residence sometime between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, State College police said. The car's value is unknown.

  • Theft: A bookbag and contents valued at $100 owned by Jill Towville, 255 Atherton Hall, was reported taken from the lobby of Hibbs Hall sometime between 2:50 and 2:53 yesterday morning, University police said.
