Greedy department

Penn State's athletic department has hit a new low for greed by forcing the women's basketball team to give up the home court advantage that they earned in the NCAA women's basketball tournament so that Rec Hall would be free for (last night's) nationally-telecast men's NIT game.

The first-round NCAA women's games were all scheduled for (yesterday) so that if Penn State wanted to host the women's game it would need to be for (last night).

However, the first-round men's NIT games have been scheduled over a three-day period (last night through Friday night). Therefore, the men's NIT game could have been scheduled for (tonight) or Friday night so that Rec Hall would be free to host the women (last night).

The University of Maryland took advantage of the fact to schedule a NIT contest for (tonight) so that their women's team could still play at home (last night). Penn State was faced with the same situation and could have chosen the same response.

However, the athletic department forced the women out of Rec Hall because if the men were forced to play on Thursday or Friday, they would not receive the television exposure they (would have had last night) from playing as a part of ESPN's NIT doubleheader.
