The Organization of Town Independent Students elected Vice President Melissa Keller as next year's council president and council member Nichol Barlett as vice president in Monday night's election in which both nominees ran unopposed.
Keller said her primary goal as the organization's new president is to attract new members.
Because OTIS will lose many of its current 17 members to graduation, the council decided to postpone elections for treasurer until Fall Semester, said Judy Falce, current OTIS president. None of the current members feels qualified to fill the position, Keller added.
Transition will last for two weeks and new executives will begin their terms March 26, Falce said.
During her term, Keller said she plans to provide new services for off-campus students and continue to provide current services.
Keller said she also wants to work more closely with other student organizations such as the Council for Commonwealth Student Governments and the Association of Residence Hall Students.
Borough issues such as the recent fair housing ordinance, Barlett said, will also be a major concern. Barlett added she would encourage OTIS to work on a rent control bill next semester.
Barlett expressed apprehension and excitement about her new position.
"I have some big shoes to fill, definitely," she said.
