South Halls residents went about their daily routines yesterday enjoying the beautiful weather despite news that their residence area no longer had a government.
Most students said they were either unaffected by the news, or unaware that the South Halls Residence Association's registration as a student organization was revoked by the Undergraduate Student Government Supreme Court Monday night.
"I really think it's terrible that something like this could have happened in South Halls, a place where so many activities were available for the community," Cindy Rominiecki, vice president of the South Halls Residence Association, said.
"We were lucky the weight room is paid off, but the fashion show for Thursday night still needs to be funded. As of now all of our funds are frozen."
"I think for people who do participate in South Halls events, it will take away from their identity," said Dana Marsh (junior-journalism).
Sheri Bosack (sophomore-division of undergraduate studies), who lives in Hibbs Hall, said the elimination of the organization might affect her plans to participate in tomorrow's social and fashion show and the opening of the area's new weight room, she said.
She said it was unfair that every other residence area has a government.
Rominiecki said the organization would go to the USG Supreme Court by Friday to voice its position on the issue. A new or revised constitution will be presented then.
