Call foul

Everyone in the Penn State community should be extremely proud of the accomplishments of the men's basketball team. Coach Parkhill and his players have brought the caliber of play to a level unthinkable even five years ago.

However, to deny the league champion women's basketball team the critical home-court advantage for the NCAA Tournament, the BIG SHOW, just in case the men's team might need Rec Hall was a shamefully sexist act.

The athletic department has made it clear that: At Men's State, women simply do not matter; the commitment to women's athletics is mere tokenism; revenues are more important than ethics.

The decision runs counter to everything Penn State supposedly stands for. It is an embarrassment to the entire University community and tarnishes the outstanding accomplishments of both teams.

If Coach Parkhill honestly doesn't "see what the big deal is," he should be made aware that superb recruiting and coaching skills are simply not enough for a person in such a visible position.

If those responsible for the decision do not understand that there is more at stake here than basketball and/or revenues, then they do not belong in positions of power.
