Root for Ladies
The status of women at Penn State became blatantly clear to us, when the Lady Lion's basketball team was sold short by the administration. After an impressive season, Rene Portland and the "Dream Team" clinched an NCAA bid with rights to a first round home game. But apparently, it was deemed more important to "secure Rec Hall" for the men's team, in anticipation of a possible home game stemming from a possible NIT bid, than to keep the facility open for an automatic NCAA bid for the women if they won their conference (which they did). This decision gives the impression that either the administration has no faith in the women's team or that the women's team is somehow less significant than the men's team. Regardless, it makes crystal clear the lack of support, the bias, the indifference and the trivialization of women's achievements by the administration at Penn State. To correct this, we will be bringing the women's first round NCAA tournament game back to Rec Hall were it belongs. At 7 on Wednesday, March 14, we will meet in front of Rec Hall with radios tuned to WRSC 1390. Join us, and bring your radio, something to sit on, pom-poms and help us to cheer the Lady Lions on to victory.
