Steve Bell, anchorman at KYW-TV Eyewitness News in Philadelphia, will give a presentation on the media's responsibility in international affairs at 7 tonight in 301 HUB.
Bell was chosen due to his impressive list of credentials, said Jim Dooling, member of the Undergraduate Student Government's Department of Political and International Affairs.
Bell has appeared on "Good Morning America" and ABC's "World News This Morning." He has also covered the Watergate affair, the Vietnam conflict and several United Nations meetings, Dooling added.
"He is a very personable man who is easy going and interesting to talk with on a one to one basis," said Amy Dusch, another member of the department sponsoring the event.
Since he likes to use personal anecdotes to highlight his talks, the specifics of Bell's speech are unknown, Dusch said.
The program coincides with the School of Communications' career information week and Dooling said he hopes this will attract many students interested in the media.
The career information week in the School of Communications, which began on yesterday, includes several sessions on career planning. The week ends on Thursday with the "meet the professionals" Job Fair.
Dusch said the topic was chosen because it is one that is not always addressed.
"The public's only means of what's going on in the media is by hearing it directly from the media" she added.
This afternoon Bell will speak to a broadcast news class and an ethics in media class, said Dusch. He is going to answer any questions communication students may have concerning the media in general.
