I'd like to respond to Stacy Niedecker's article of March 7, regarding the Presidential Search and Screen Committee. According to J. Lloyd Huck, selection committee chairperson, the next Penn State president is likely to be serving as president or "number two man" at another major university.
"Number Two Man?" Really. Can't we be a little more inclusive than that?
It may seem petty to be concerned about a simple expression, but a phrase like "number two man" reinforces sexist attitudes and offers a glimpse into the old-boy network by which presidential candidates may be chosen.
This is unacceptable at a university supposedly pursuing diversity and equality.
