Former University student charged with October rape: A former University student was charged yesterday with rape against a female University student, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
James M. Roberts, 21, 151 Boxfield Road, Pittsburgh, faces charges of rape, criminal attempt to rape and indecent assault in a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 14 at 1 p.m., police said.
Charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred in October at Roberts' apartment, 131 Sowers St., while he attended the University.
The woman told police that Roberts had sexually assaulted her after they returned to his apartment from a party. Police said the alleged incident was alcohol related.
Roberts is also scheduled to stand trial for assault charges from a separate incident last semester.

Driver slightly injured after car rolls down a small hill: One person was slightly injured when the vehicle he was driving hit a curb and rolled down a small hill on Southgate Drive Tuesday night, State College police said.
Donald Patterson Jr., 915-24 Southgate Drive, was traveling on the 800 block of Southgate Drive when an oncoming car caused him to hit the curb, then a tree, and proceeded to roll down a hill, police said.
Patterson sustained minor head injuries and was treated and released, a Centre Community Hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said a blood-alcohol test showed a level of .19 and a citation will be issued.

Deer mortally wounded in accident on Boal Avenue: A deer was mortally wounded after it was hit by a car driven by a Virginia resident on Boal Avenue yesterday morning, State College police said.
John T. Baldwin, of Richmond, Va., was traveling northbound on Boal Avenue just past Old Boalsburg Road when two deer ran in front of his vehicle. Baldwin told police he was unable to stop in time and hit one deer. A police officer was forced to kill the deer.
Baldwin's car sustained moderate damage.

Criminal Mischief: A carpet in an Irvin Hall basement study lounge was damaged when someone poured bleach on it, University Police Services said. The carpet will have to be replaced, the police said. The bleach was poured onto the carpet sometime between 2 and 6 a.m. on Feb. 23, police said. A replacement will cost $2,100.
