Construction worker hurt when ditch wall caves in: A construction worker was hospitalized Monday afternoon after the wall of a ditch he was working in fell on him, University Police Services said.
Gerry Sell, owner of the G. E. Sell Construction Co. in Duncansville, was treated and released from Centre Community Hospital after part of the trench he was working in collapsed near the Gypsy Moth Laboratory on campus at about 3:40 Monday afternoon, police said.
The company had been contracted by the University to replace an underground fuel tank at the laboratory, police said. Construction worker Mark McIntyre, who was working in the trench with Sell, was not injured.

Woman injured in accident after driving on ice patch: An accident yesterday morning on Route 26 left one person slightly injured, Ferguson Township police said.
Catherine Sodergren, 22, 932 Woodland Drive, Bellefonte, was slightly injured when the car she was driving hit an ice patch on Route 26 in Pine Grove Mills and flipped several times, police said.
Sodergren was taken to Centre Community Hospital where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The extent of damage to the vehicle was unavailable from police.

Police arrest man after finding bombs, weapons: A Clearfield County man was arrested and arraigned Monday afternoon after state police at Clearfield found a number of homemade bombs, assault rifles and other weapons at his residence.
Paul R. Blowers, 34, 712 Martin St., Clearfield, was charged with risking catastrophe and criminal attempt/prohibited offensive weapons. Police said the weapons, which also included throwing stars, were found in his vehicle and home.
Police discovered the weapons while investigating Blowers for an alleged indecent exposure incident in May 1989.
Blowers was sent to Clearfield County Prison in lieu of $10,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 28.

Truck driver backs into car on Buckhout Street corner: One car was severely damaged when a truck backed into the car yesterday morning on North Buckhout Street, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
The truck driver, Ronald Billotte of Frenchville, backed up the truck to allow another vehicle to turn onto Buckhout Street from West College Avenue, police said.
The truck, owned by Soult Wholesale Co., crashed into a car driven by Catherine G. Rathmell, 232 Spring Lea Drive, causing severe damage, and then drove away.
Billotte, who was later contacted by police, said he was unaware of the crash and returned to the scene, police said.
Billotte was issued a citation.

Burglary: A VCR belonging to Keith Tindall, 320 E. Beaver Ave., was taken from his residence sometime between Feb. 24 and March 4, State College police said.

Criminal Mischief: The cover of an electrical panel at the Park Avenue picnic area was reported pried off, University police said. The Office of Physical Plant repaired the damage but did not have a cost estimate, police said.

Theft: Someone broke the rear windshield of a car belonging to Teri Kline, 2407 Parkside Ave., Hatborough, while it was parked at 118 S. Atherton St. sometime between March 5 and March 6, State College police said. About $250 in clothes was taken from the car.
