Change musical diet
I am sitting here with "a new stomachache" after reading an article in Monday's The Daily Collegian. It seems the RHAB is contemplating removing music from the dining halls because of the American Family Association, all five members strong. While the University does little to accomodate the special needs of other diners, such as vegetarians or Kosher students, it seems receptive to the outcry of the AFA. A University that feels it is "not possible to provide special diets under any circumstances" should not change its practices because of an organization that does not even consist of enough people to fill one dining hall table. Myself, as well as many other (many more than five) people, enjoy listening to rock music as we eat. The Terms Conditions and Regulations of Housing and Food Services states that if a student has a special requirement, such as a "personal dietary preference", they should not file a contract. Eating without music should be considered a "personal dietary preference", and the members of the AFA should eat elsewhere. It is a sad day at Penn State when it is easier to get the music turned off in eight dining commons than it is to get myself one bowl of Lucky Charms.
