Letter to the Editor
Love will persevere
In response to the article "A columnist aims arrows at overcommercialized holiday," (The Daily Collegian, Feb. 14), I am appalled at your lack of sensitivity. Granted most of our holidays have become overcommercialized, but remember -- this is America. First of all, "precious" for most people is more aptly applied to a loved one than beer. Your comparison between spending money on flowers and beer implies where your values stand. Secondly, there should be no direct correlation between the amount of money spent and the depth of your feelings. There is no price tag on love. Thirdly, as for etiquette, the simple rule is to always use the silverware farthest on the outside for each consecutive course of the meal. Now that you know what silverware to use, you can worry about more important things, such as dinner conversation. After all, that's why you take her out, isn't it? Finally, there are only two times a year when you celebrate your feelings between you and your loved one: Valentine's Day and your anniversary. Think about it -- would it really kill you to express your feelings twice a year?
