Open mind to music
If Bob Bowen, president of the AFA can't stomach the "sewage" he hears, I can't stomach the "sewage" I'm reading. This type of witch hunt against the evils of rock-and-roll is like some bad movie set in the 50s. Once again, we see a small radical group trying to enforce its will on the rest of us because they happen to yell loudly and attract attention from the me media. If the rest of the people wanted the music out of the dining commons, a lot more than four complaints would have been registered. A possible alternative is the introduction of non-music hours in the commons: that way those of us who enjoy "sewage" can listen, and those of us who don't, don't have to. I also didn't come to school to be lectured about my values and morals, or ask the AFA to remove all these "evil" influences from college. This type of narrow, close-mindedness isn't what we came to school for. We should open our minds rather than close them. The banning of rock-and-roll is nothing but pure "censorship," which should be violently opposed. Especially here at college, where ideas should be allowed to flow, censorship shouldn't be allowed to flourish. Remember, there is no such thing as a little censorship. Once you allow others to control what you think, read or hear, freedom is lost, and not easily regained. As a former D.J., I like the "sewage," and any attempt at this censorship will be opposed.
