Animal testing
Not only is censorship entering Penn State through the AFA's banning of rock music, but now a new force is at large here -- the Alliance for Animal Rights. These people are actually claiming that the life of a common rodent, a mouse (which probably if ever found in their house would be killed in a more violent manner than ever used in a lab), is more precious than that of children or anyone suffering from such terminal diseases as AIDS, cancer and cystic fibrosis. I was so infuriated when I read this full-paged spread (The Daily Collegian, Feb. 15) that I almost missed the tiny article on page seven on how scientists discovered a genetic recombinant molecule, CD4, that may fight AIDS. This molecule was obviously If these "animal activists" are truly supporting their cause, then they should stop being hypocritical and not use the benefits of animal research. Yes, Trina Miller and associates, if you say no animal research, you also say no vaccinations, no surgery (particularly heart surgery which cows helped develop) and if any of you should come down with cancer or AIDS, God forbid, then there might not be a cure for you. If you are against animal research, then be against it in all respects, instead of the hypocrites that you are. Animal research has helped us in the past, is helping us in the present, and will continue to help us in the future. It is also used to help with animal diseases such as canine distemper and feline leukemia. If you don't want animals to be used in research, then mankind as well as animals will most definitely suffer.
