Port Matilda fire causes $115,000 damage to home: A Port Matilda fire that caused more than $115,000 in damage Saturday night resulted from a malfunction in a circuit-breaker box, state police at Rockview said.
Police said either the age of the wiring or overloading the circuits may have started the fire at the residence of Sterl Price and John Price, RD 1, Port Matilda. Alpha, Boalsburg and Port Matilda fire companies responded to the fire, police said.
Damage to the house is estimated at $65,000, and about $50,000 in belongings were also lost, police said.

Man's nose broken in fight at the Dance Marathon: A fight among spectators at the Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon in White Building resulted in a broken nose early Saturday morning, University Police Services said.
Matthew Spak, 240 E. Prospect Ave., suffered a broken nose after he and several other men exchanged obscenities while attending the Dance Marathon at about 3:30 a.m., police said.
Four other men were involved in the incident and have been identified. Police would not release the names. An investigation is continuing, police said.

Man drives over lawn at Nittany Lion Inn: A Port Matilda man was apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol after he hit another car, drove through the parking lot and trees at the Nittany Lion Inn and hit a "No Parking" sign, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
Ronald Fidler, 31, was driving north on Atherton Street at Beaver Avenue when his truck scraped the side of a southbound car driven by Kevin Barger, 19, also of Port Matilda, at 8:28 Friday night, police said. Barger reported the incident to police who began a search for Fidler.
Police found Fidler inside his truck, which was stopped against a street sign on West Park Avenue. His truck had traveled through the Nittany Lion Inn parking lot and an area of grass and trees before hitting the sign, police said. He was cited for several traffic citations.

Two woman apprehended for allegedly shoplifting: Two women were apprehended by State College police during the weekend for allegedly shoplifting from stores in the Nittany Mall, police said.
One woman was apprehended for allegedly attempting to take $195 in assorted items from Gee Bee shortly after 2 yesterday afternoon, State College police said. She used her jean jacket to cover a cart filled with toiletries, cleaning products, drapes and toys, and then attempted to leave the store, police said.
Another woman was apprehended for allegedly attempting to take $288 in items from various stores shortly before 7 Saturday night, State College police said. She attempted to leave Gee Bee with items from Gee Bee, Benetton, Marianne, Lane Bryant, and Fashion Bug stores in the mall, police said.

Argument turns into a fist fight near the Diner: A Homestead man was reportedly assaulted when he left the College Diner, 100 W. College Ave., at 11:17 Friday night, State College police said.
Daniel Zakis, 21, said he exited the restaurant when he became involved in an argument with another man. During the argument, a second man punched Zakis, police said. Police have no suspects.

Hi-Way door window broken during incident: An 8-foot-square window was broken during a confrontation at Hi-Way Pizza, 112 S. Garner St., early Saturday morning, State College police said.
A man apparently vomited on the door while he was exiting the restaurant, police said. Another man, who was attempting to enter the restaurant, put his hand in the vomit and hit the man who was leaving, police said. Charges will be filed against the assailant, police said. A damage estimate for the window was not available.

Man drives onto lawn, destroys grass worth $100: Grass at the intersection of Park Avenue and Atherton Street was damaged after a man drove onto it Friday evening, University police said. The grass was valued at $100.
Ronald Fiedler, no address given, reportedly drove onto the sidewalk near Nittany Lion Inn and onto the grass, University police said. No reason was given as to the cause of the accident, and no citation was issued.

Criminal Mischief: Three panels of the Cinema 5 movie theater's marquee were broken sometime shortly after midnight yesterday, State College police said. Damage to the sign of the theatre, 116 Heister St., was estimated between $600 and $700, police said.

Theft: A $120 bicycle belonging to David Pasquarelli, 218 Holmes, was taken from the north side of Ritenour Health Center Friday morning at about 10:13 a.m.

Theft: A $250 compact disc player belonging to Michael Hansen, 818 Bellaire Court, was reported taken from his apartment after a party there during the weekend, State College police said.
