Police Log

  • Two people injured in crash in front of Meyer Dairy: Two people were slightly injured after two vehicles collided on South Atherton Street on Wednesday evening, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    Beth Barkett Heinemann, 114 W. South Hills Ave., and Smith Lyday, 317 Hartswick Ave., were treated and released from Centre Community Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

    Heinemann was turning on South Allen Street from Meyer Dairy, 2390 S. Atherton St., when James Beamer, 3636 S. Atherton St., changed lanes. Lyday was a passenger in Beamer's vehicle.

    Heinemann told police she thought Beamer was preparing to enter Meyer Dairy and pulled into his path.

    Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

  • PSU student stopped for speeding, cited for DUI: A male University student was cited for drunken driving after he was stopped yesterday morning for speeding near East Halls, University Police Services said.

    The student was traveling on Bigler Road when he was stopped, police said.

    The student's name was not released because official charges have not yet been filed, police said.

  • Department offers reward for information on computer: The Department of Materials Science is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for taking an Apple MacIntosh Se computer from 8 Steidle Building on Feb. 7.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact University police.

  • Theft: A portable cassette player valued at $400 and owned by James Anzalone, 207 Packer, was reported taken from an architecture studio on the third floor of Engineering Unit B, University police said.

    The player was taken sometime between 4 Saturday morning and noon Sunday from the unlocked studio, police said.

  • Theft: An Apple MacIntosh external disk drive valued at $300 was reported taken from 219 Boucke Building sometime between 9 Sunday night and 1 Monday afternoon, University police said.

    The room was locked and police found no signs of forced entry.

  • Theft: A radar detector valued at $300 was taken from a car belonging to Carlo D. Smith, 520 Franklin St., sometime between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12, State College police said.

  • Theft: About $150 in food products were reported taken from a locked Rec Hall storage room sometime between Monday and Wednesday, University police said.

    The items taken include, candy, a box of tortilla chips and two two-gallon cans of nacho cheese, police said.

  • Theft: A black rotary telephone valued at $100 was reported taken from the second floor hallway in Deike Building sometime between 5 Tuesday afternoon and 11 Wednesday morning, University police said.
