Students and faculty who want to voice concerns to the Faculty Senate about the proposed diversity requirements must sign up today to speak at Tuesday's meeting.
The Senate will hold a discussion session on the requirement at 1:30 p.m. in 101 Kern.
To address the Senate, students must request permission from David P. Gold, chairperson of the Senate's student life committee. Faculty members must contact George Bugyi, Senate secretary.
The discussion is expected to be the last before a vote at the Senate's March meeting, Bugyi said.
Under the proposed requirement, students would have to pass a three-credit, "diversity focused" or four three-credit "diversity enhanced" courses.
Diversity focused classes examine "racial, ethnic, gender and/or global" perspectives. Enhanced courses must devote 25 percent of their time to these issues. Neither of the options would require additional classes but would count as General Education.
