Lyrics not all bad

I am writing in rebuttal about Monday's article "In the dining hall, a new stomachache" (The Daily Collegian). First of all, if rock music is so bad like the AFA says, then why are there only four complaints against playing it in the dining commons?

Next, Bob Bowen addresses us that rock lyrics contain "awful things" and are against what Christians believe. Are the lyrics from such artists as U2, Midnight Oil and Sting, whose songs are frequently for human rights, bad?

Also, there are many music artists whose songs deal with pro-environment (Talking Heads), anti-racism (Living Colour), homeless support (Phil Collins) and anti-child abuse (Madonna). Are these un-Christian?

True, there are some groups such as Bon Jovi and Prince that sing about sex, but it is very restricted on the radio and it is not a general theme of rock and roll.

Also most "love" songs deal with non-sexual relationships or that of the sensuality part of a relationship that can be found in songs by such music artists as Belinda Carlisle, Richard Marx, and Lou Gramm.

To quote Kate Bush (a popular British rock artist) "I think the essence of all art is sensuality rather than sexuality. That's what art is, it's really pure feeling." And all music is an art, like it or not.

That brings up my last point in which I ask for the AFA to have a tolerance for rock music. Everybody cannot abide to every value judgement of every interest group.

I don't want Ray Bradbury's novel 451 Fahrenheit to become reality. If you don't like it, don't listen to or watch it.
