Flesh-fest appalls

We would like to congratulate the Penn State boxers on their victory Saturday evening. They showed an impressive display of athletic ability and they deserve much more credit and acknowledgment from the University.

We were in awe of their sheer determination and courage. In fact this might have been one of the better Penn State sporting events we have been to, had it not been for the blatant and unnecessary display of sexism between rounds.

We were offended by the woman wearing an undersized bikini top under a revealing tank and short shorts who strutted into the ring to announce the round numbers. We were also appalled by a few male crowd members showing their acceptance of this degrading act by whistling and cheering.

Even though we were made aware that this woman was a volunteer, we cannot ignore the fact that the team forsakes the seriousness of their sport by allowing it to be turned into a flesh-fest between rounds.
