Two-and-a-half years after a major fire destroyed St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a congregation of more then 600 celebrated the church's re-opening yesterday in a modern facility surrounded by new stained glass windows.
 
Rock music soon may be banished from dorm commons and dining hall areas because some students in North and South Halls find its lyrics difficult to stomach. However, the Residence Hall Advisory Board has not taken any action in response to the four complaints it has received.
 
When the U.S. Congress reauthorizes the Higher Education Act next year, the process could strip the Stafford federal loan program of its entitlement and transfer the entitlement to the Pell Grant program, congressional aids say.

The U.S. Department of Education's proposed budget for the fiscal year 1991 offers no substantial increases in student aid programs despite increases in student costs, a department spokesman said last week.
 
A University student, injured in a car accident which killed two other students Feb. 4, was released Friday from Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, a hospital spokeswoman said. Another injured student remains hospitalized.
 
The soot-collecting unit of Corning Glass Works in State College caught fire Saturday evening, causing minor damages. No one was injured.

The men's volleyball team broke a four-game losing streak Saturday night, defeating Ohio State to finish third at the Golden Dome Classic at Rutgers-Newark.

PHILADELPHIA -- All season long the talk surrounding the men's basketball team has been the play of Ed Fogell. During Saturday's game at St. Joseph's, with Fogell not producing offensively, the men's basketball team looked to its guards to pick up the slack.
 
PHILADELPHIA -- It wasn't the defense or Dale Hodges. It was simply the Lady Hawks' understanding of Coach Jim Foster's propensity to speak French from the bench.
 
In the absence of Lynn Crane, freshman Allison Barber emerged as the women's gymnastics team's steady performer in its win over IUP, 184.15-176.45, on Saturday night.
 
The Mikes were on full-power Saturday night at Rec Hall.
