Letter to the Editor
Column disturbs
Wouldn't it be nice if we could casually dismiss dangerously racist opinions, like those of Chino Wilson, as marginal and unimportant. I wish I could. Instead, I was deeply disturbed by Mr. Wilson's comments and claims of a "subversive plot to kill all African-Americans" (Collegian, Feb. 2). There's little reason to dispute Mr. Wilson's argument now, because a worthy discussion of racism in America requires more depth than this (letter) can offer. However, in the future, I suggest that the Collegian consider running a publication of the Ku Klux Klan alongside Mr. Wilson's opinions so that your readers can see more graphically the similarity between these seemingly divergent messages of fear and hatred. These extremist platforms are pushing us farther away from an eventual solution to the racism which permeates our society. Let's hope that Mr. Wilson and anyone else who shares his distorted vision of reality will eventually recognize that racial problems are complex issues which require a deliberate and intelligent dialogue, as opposed to his uni-dimensional racist diatribe.
