  • Garden store and apartment burned by woodburner fire: A fire destroyed a Philipsburg business and an apartment above it at 9:30 yesterday morning, state police in Philipsburg said. No one was injured.

    State police said Bush's Nursery and Garden Center, 309 School St., was destroyed after a fire started in a woodburner. The fire destroyed the building, including an apartment owned by Robert A. Bush, 21, and all of its contents, police said. The damage is estimated at $75,000.

    The nursery is owned by Robert M. Bush of Port Matilda.

  • Two cars damaged in crash on West Prospect Avenue: Two vehicles were damaged Wednesday afternoon when they collided on West Prospect Avenue, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    A car driven north on South Allen Street by Carol Henry, RD 4 Continental Courts, Bellefonte, rammed into a vehicle going east on West Prospect Avenue by Shahnez Lofti, 65 Walnut Ave., as she edged her way into the intersection, police said. Neither were injured.

  • Men damage dorm window by throwing rocks at glass: Two males tossed a rock through a dorm window early yesterday morning, but no one was injured, University Police Services said.

    The two were reportedly yelling and shouting outside Cross Hall at 4:01 yesterday morning when a resident on the second floor told them to be quiet, police said. They then broke the resident's window by throwing a rock, police said.

    One of the suspects is a white male, about 5-feet 10-inches tall with light brown hair, police said. He was wearing a blue jacket with a red lining and a green sweater and jeans, police said. The other is also a white male, 5-feet 5-inches tall with blond hair and a baseball hat, police said.

    Two witnesses saw the incident and told police they could identify the men if they saw them.

  • Man who took key at Berks caught in Willard closets: A man was apprehended at 1:48 yesterday morning for using a key taken from the Penn State Berks Campus to enter Willard Building janitors' closets, University police said.

    The man was spotted by a janitor and apprehended by police on Burrowes Road, police said. He was identified and released.

    Police would not release the man's name because they intend to arrest him on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass and public drunkenness.

  • Burglary: A Beechcreek man was arrested for a burglary at Alice's General Store in Monument, state police at Rockview said.

    Mark J. Baumgarner was arrested and put in Centre County Prison for the burglary which occurred between Wednesday and yesterday, police said. No further details were available from police.

  • Criminal Mischief: The door windows of a car belonging to Tran Shan Hu, 514 Linden Road, were apparently shot out by a marble launched from a slingshot sometime between 3 and 9 this morning, University police said.

    Hu's car was parked outside his residence when the incident occurred, police said. No damage estimate is available.

  • Criminal Mischief: A side window of a car belonging to Maureen Keller, 100 Cuhns Lane, was smashed by a glass marble while parked on 600 W. Nittany Ave., between 7:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, State College police said. No damage estimate was available.

  • Criminal Mischief: A window was broken and a door window frame was kicked out of an apartment occupied by Teresa Hawbaker, 225 W. Beaver Ave., sometime yesterday, State College police said. No damage estimate was available.

  • Theft: Four wire hubcaps, valued at about $500, were taken from a car parked at Nelson's Nittany Motors, 1225 E. College Ave., sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. yesterday, State College police said.

  • Theft: A Zebra bicycle belonging to William Keirnan, 660 E. Prospect Ave., was reported taken from the bushes outside of McElwain Hall sometime between 3 and 8 yesterday morning, University police said.

    Keirnan's said his roommate borrowed the bicycle, valued at $200, to go to McElwain Hall, police said. His roommate hid it in the bushes, but it was gone when he left in the morning, police said.
