Open house shows students PSU

The College of Science, in its second annual open house this weekend, gave prospective students and parents a chance to tour University classrooms, labs and dorms and enabled them to talk with professors about the different majors.

Representatives from housing and food services, financial aid, and scholarship programs were also there to answer students' questions.

"We wanted to show them what Penn State has to offer," said Suzanne Sinclair, Coordinator of Alumni Affairs and Special Projects for the College of Science.

Norman Freed, dean of the College of Science, said last year's enrollment in the college showed a definite increase and he thought the open house could have been responsible. He said he expected an even larger turnout this year since close to 800 people responded to the invitations.

Representatives from the commonwealth campuses were also at the open house this year to answer questions students had about the college. Freed said the commonwealth campuses were not represented last year, that having them at the fair gave students even more of a choice.

Students should be given an overall view of the University before they make their choices, Freed said.

"At least they'll make an enlightened decision either way," he said.
