Racist column

Chino Wilson's column (Feb. 2) clearly states that drugs and AIDS are aimed at the destruction of black people. I found this (column) to be very offensive and even "racist" in its declaration that this "destruction" is being carried out through the efforts of members of the white population. Where did he get those absurd assumptions?

When a person decides to take drugs it is that person's own individual choice to do so and nobody else's. To say that this is a white plot bent on the elimination of black society is a statement that borders on the edge of stupidity.

Using this same "expert" reasoning, fat people can accuse supermarkets for plotting their destruction and alcoholics can blame liquor stores for their dilemma.

In addition, his statement that AIDS is a disease developed by the government to wipe out the American black population is a sickening idea. In case one hasn't realized it yet, AIDS is a terrible disease that can strike both black and white people alike.

Finally, Mr. Wilson also brought up several instances of white violence against black. I'm not doubting that these attacks are terrible and unjust, but there are two sides to every coin.

For example, in 1986 a black student of a Windsor, Ga., high school shot and killed his white principal. This incident received little media attention and failed to raise any moral outrage from black leaders.

In fact, the president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Reverend Joseph Lowery's main concern was only that the black youth receive a fair trial.

What can be said about people who condemn racist white attacks, but ignore racist black attacks?

I feel that if Mr. Wilson wants to write about racism he is free to do so, but he should not develop ridiculous stories to prove his points and he should also take into account all sides of such controversy.

After reading Chino Wilson's Feb. 2 article, one can clearly see that racism is indeed alive and well in America today. However, it is not the blacks that are on all of its receiving end.
