  • Copter carries injured to Geisinger for treatment: A Howard Township woman was in critical condition last night and had to be flown by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center after her car struck a tree on Route 26, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon near the State Correctional Institution at Rockview.

Frita Smith suffered multiple head injuries and multiple internal injuries after her car left the roadway and struck a tree, a Centre Community Hospital spokeswoman said. Smith was taken to the hospital and flown by helicopter to the medical center in Danville. No other details were available.

  • Man runs Atherton light; accident results in injuries: An accident early this morning on South Atherton Street slightly injured two people and resulted in a traffic citation, Ferguson Township Police said.

John Prickett, 19, of Highspire in Dauphin County, reportedly ran a red light on South Atherton Street when Charles Scrudders, 57, 236 Science Park Road, drove out from Clinton Avenue and collided with Prickett, Ferguson police said.

Although police said the two were taken to Centre Community Hospital with slight injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said there is no record on the men. She added the two may have refused treatment.

  • Trucker tries to avoid crash, hits two cars despite efforts: No one was injured in a three-vehicle accident at 6:40 yesterday morning at the intersection of Routes 220 and 3021 in Houston Township, state police at Philipsburg said.

A car driven by Allen Goldberg, 53, 1270 Annette St., Johnstown, was stopped in the northbound lane of Route 220 at the intersection in order to turn onto Route 3021, police said. Meanwhile, a tractor-trailer driven by Robert E. Bullington, 46, 21 E. Bring St., Nanticoke, was driving north toward the intersection.

Bullington steered the truck into the southbound lane to avoid Goldberg's car and instead pushed a southbound car driven by Catherine A. Butterfield, 22, of Julian into an embankment, police said. The truck continued north on Route 220 and struck the rear of Goldberg's car, police said.

Butterfield's and Goldberg's cars were totaled and Bullington's truck received moderate damage, police said.

  • Keys left in the ignition result in overnight theft: An Osceola Mills woman's car was taken from Route 504 near the Philipsburg borough line where it was parked, state police at Philipsburg said.

Carol Ann Pruner, 50, 312 Pruner St., told police her car was taken sometime between 4 Monday afternoon and 6 yesterday morning. Police said Pruner left her keys in the car's ignition.

Pruner's car, a white and maroon 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, is dented in the rear and valued at $6,000, police said.

  • Burglary/Theft: University computer equipment valued at $4,164 was reported taken sometime between Friday and Monday, University Police Services said.

Two Apple Macintosh computers and one hard disk drive were taken from 227 Hammond Building, police said.

  • Disorderly Conduct: Martin M. Burns, 27, of Milesburg was cited for disorderly conduct after a fight in a Milesburg Uni-Mart parking lot at 11:35 yesterday morning, state police at Rockview said.
