Despite yesterday's seven inches of snow compounded by rain and sleet, and the resulting hazardous road conditions, no one was seriously hurt in numerous traffic accidents, according to local police reports.
The only injury came from a one-car accident on Easterly Parkway at 9:08 yesterday morning, State College Bureau of Police said. Carol Ann Provins, 28, 909 Walton St., Philipsburg, was traveling west on Easterly Parkway and lost control of her car in the snow, police said.
Her car struck a "No Parking" sign which broke the window on the driver's side. Provins' car had to be towed because of the missing window, police said. Provins was slightly injured.
Snow-covered roads were factors in several injury-free accidents yesterday.
About two hours after snow began accumulating, Marc P. Dadwe, 20, 11812 N. 85th St., Scottsdale, Ariz., was attempting to turn left onto Nittany Avenue from Pugh Street at about 12:40 a.m. but slid past the turn, State College police said.
Dadwe's car hit the curb and was then struck in the rear by a car driven by Kirk A. Rexford, 21, 146 S. Main St., Waterbury, Vt., police said. Damage to Dadwe's automobile was estimated at $2,500 and Rexford's car at $500, police said.
In another accident, Richard A. Peters, 29, 126 Harris Ave., Boalsburg, lost control of his car while making a turn off University Drive and struck a West Penn Power pole at 7:04 yesterday morning, State College police said.
Peters' car spun around and was struck on the right side by a car driven by Michael J. Hicks, 711 W. Front St., Philipsburg, police said. Damage is estimated at $4,500 on Peters' car and $1,000 on Hicks' automobile. Police said both drivers were traveling too fast for the road conditions.
