Self-centered students

"So many pedestrians, so little time." I read this bumper sticker and immediately thought about driving on Penn State campus and wished I had a dozen of these bumper stickers to put on my car.

We have heard time and time again how bad it is to drive on campus, especially while classes are changing. For some people, driving during these hectic periods is unavoidable (i.e. people with disabilities who have special parking close to classes).

And, although we have heard these complaints about students not knowing how to use sidewalks, the situation still does not change. Couples continue to hold conversations while standing in the street; people with Walkmans still strut down the middle of the road oblivious to what's going on around them.

Yes, it does appear some Penn State students think themselves immortal but I will continue to complain about such thoughtlessness.

My time is very valuable. I, like many other students, only have a precious 15 minutes to get from class to class only, because of physical disabilities, I have to move my car.

Will thoughtless students ever learn? I doubt it. They're too caught up in their own world and inconsiderate of the needs of others.

"So many pedestrians, so little time." One of these days, the temptation may be too great.
