Charges pending against sender of weapons to S.C.: Criminal charges will be filed against the person who shipped weapons into the University Park Airport Tuesday morning, a University Police Services spokesman said yesterday.
After checking with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, police discovered some weapons were registered incorrectly. The shipper already faces Federal Aviation Administration penalties for improperly shipping the weapons, police said.
The weapons, which included two Uzi submachine guns with silencers and four handguns, were discovered in unmarked luggage when airport employees inspected it. The luggage was shipped to the airport by mistake, police said.
Police have a suspect in the incident but did not release a name. Airport officials referred comment about the incident to the airline. Airline spokespeople were unavailable for comment.

Police: Indecent exposure, assault cases unrelated: University police say reports of an indecent exposure and an assault in the same campus building within eight hours of each other are apparently unrelated.
Authorities said a man was reportedly observed masturbating in the north stairwell of Willard Building around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the man, who was gone when they arrived, was seen in the stairwell by a janitor.
The man is described as a white male with blonde hair wearing a white sweatshirt and blue sweatpants, police said.
Later in Willard, a male janitor was assaulted on the third floor at about 6:40 yesterday morning, police said.
The janitor, whom police would not identify, told police he was propositioned by a man who then grabbed him in the groin him from behind. The janitor punched the man who then fled the scene, police said. The man was gone when police arrived.
Police describe the assailant as a clean-shaven white male with blond hair. He was wearing a black suede jacket and jeans, police said.
"They were both blond, but that's about it," a University police spokesman said.

Two vehicles collide after driver fails to stop at light: Two vehicles were damaged yesterday afternoon when they collided on Easterly Parkway and South Allen Street, State College Bureau of Police Services said.
Geraldine M. Wood, 65, of 265 Bradley Ave., was traveling on Easterly Parkway when her car failed to stop at a red light at the intersection, crashing into Daniel J. Davner, 34, of 1002 RD Boalsburg Road.

CATA bus in fender-bender on South Atherton Street: A CATA bus collided with a vehicle driven by Mikyung Lee, 1-A Graduate Circle, yesterday afternoon at the Traffic-Way Hills Shopping Center, located on South Atherton Street, State College police said.
The bus driver, Barbara J. Green, of RD 2 Huntingdon told police she was preparing to turn down South Atherton Street when she realized another vehicle was beside the bus and stopped. Lee had also stopped and began to back up from the bus and rammed into it, police said. Both vehicles were slightly damaged.

Vehicle at Tussey Resort crashes into electric pole: A parked car belonging to a Harris Township man apparently slipped down a hill and crashed into an electrical pole, damaging the pole located at the Tussey Mountain Ski Resort, State College police said.
James H. Mortensen, 599 Devonshire Drive, told police he parked the car at the resort parking lot and put on the emergency brake. When Mortensen returned to the car about an hour later he found it against the pole.
Police said Mortensen does not know why the car slipped down the hill.

Men with outstanding arrest warrants taken in by police: Two men with outstanding arrest warrants in Patton Township were apprehended on Big Hollow Road at about 8:45 Wednesday night, University police said.
An inspection of their car and the surrounding area revealed drug paraphernalia and one of the men allegedly possessed marijuana, police said. Police are awaiting lab results of the found substance.
The two were turned over to Patton Township Police and arraigned before District Justice Clifford Yorks, University police said.
Further details were unavailable last night.

Burglary: Gregory A. Jones of Milesburg was apprehended Monday for burglary and receiving stolen property in connection with a break- in at the Houser Auto Service Center in Milesburg, Rockview state police said.
Jones was found to have several tools in his possession which were taken from the store sometime between Jan. 14 and Jan. 15, police said. Jones was arraigned before District Justice Ronald Horner and put in Centre County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail, police said.

Criminal Mischief: A male was cited for criminal mischief for breaking out a $500 window on the south side of the Rose Building at 1 yesterday morning, University police said.
The man was caught by the janitorial staff after he kicked in the five foot square window, police said.

Criminal Mischief: Someone painted "E.T. sucks" and "Re-elect CYND" on the front door of Phi Sigma Kappa, 501 S. Allen St., early yesterday morning, State College police said. The slogans were painted pink, police said.
