Change door
On Jan. 23, I was sitting in the lobby of Boucke Building waiting for a friend. A great number of people kept filing in and out of the all-glass doors at the front of the building. One young lady opened one of the doors and was astonished to have the door remove itself from its top pivot. I myself and several other people were quite surprised as well to see this door unhinge itself, for it was a definite safety hazard of serious dimensions. Fortunately, no one was injured, and I was able to remove the door completely from its frame to a safe location on a side wall. Given the great amount of traffic that goes through the front doors of Boucke in any single day, it is easy to see that the front doors undergo much structural and mechanical stress. The incident on the 23rd could happen again, and there may be a tragic accident the next time an all-glass door becomes unhinged at Boucke. For the safety of the student body and facility, I believe that the University should install a revolving door like the one at Pattee Library in the front facade of Boucke Building. Boucke houses several key student assistance offices, and is an important building on campus for many students and faculty alike. If the University fails to amend the situation correctly and promptly, then I as a concerned member of the student body ask -- What price safety?
