Vigil changes view
(Sunday night) I attended the candlelight vigil sponsored by many pro-life groups on and off campus. I have in the past always taken a passive view. I thought, for example, that it was wrong to disrupt traffic at "March for Life" rallies, and that excited speakers did more to turn off the unconcerned than to make people see the wrong of abortion. But, some recent events changed my desire to keep my beliefs to myself. I found the articles in The Daily Collegian (last week) to be somewhat silly, portraying drastic unordinary circumstances as justifiable reasons for abortion. I couldn't understand, and I find it hard to believe that a cocaine addict would spend $300 for an abortion when they need the money for their drugs which would probably take care of their "problem" anyway. The second eye-opening event for me took place (Sunday) night as I saw the behavior of some pro-choice persons at the vigil. The pro- life vigil was so peaceful; five speakers, candles, a quiet time, a song, and a group of rowdy pro-choicers making a chain in the front and back trying to chant over the music. The pro-life vigil did not degrade women in any regard as far as I could see, but was intended to educate us on where legislation stands and where God stands. But it was interrupted by silly chanting and pro-choicers' laughter. I don't know if their pictures of hangers (Come on!) or if the posters saying, "Not Pro-Life--My Life" changed anyone's mind, but I know they changed mine. No more silent hopes for God's will, I'm going to make a difference in those unborns' lives. Thanks for waking me up girls!
