  • Rockview police use tip and recapture prisoner: An inmate from Centre County Prison in Bellefonte was recaptured and returned to the prison Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman at the facility said.

    James W. Tyler, 44, was recaptured by Rockview state police in Aaronsburg after Prison Program Coordinator Ron Millward received an anonymous tip, the spokesman said.

    Tyler did not return from his place of work leave at the Fullington Trailways Bus station, 154 N. Atherton St., where he is assistant manager. He was serving a five-to-12 month sentence on a harassment by communication charge.

    Tyler faces attempted escape charges, a Centre County court spokeswoman said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 31.

  • Criminal Mischief: A chandelier in the vestibule area of University Towers, 711 University Drive, was smashed when someone tried to swing on it sometime Monday or Tuesday, State College College Bureau of Police Services said. The chandelier was valued at $1,000.

  • Theft: A leather coat worth $275, belonging to Darren Consider, 106 Sproul, was reported taken sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, University Police Services said.

    Consider told police he last had the coat in Shunk Hall, police said. A pair of contact lenses and a bottle of cologne were in the coat, police said.

  • Theft: A metallic snakeskin pocketbook, valued at $150, was taken from 210 W. College Ave. sometime during the past two weeks, State College police said. The pocketbook belonged to Jan Collier, 210 Adams Ave, police said.
