  • School bus rear-ended by driver on Southgate Drive: A State College Area School District bus was damaged when a car struck the rear of the bus at the intersection of Southgate and Waupelani drives yesterday afternoon, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

    James Paul Coll, 710 S. Atherton St., was traveling south on Southgate Drive when he saw the school bus preparing to turn onto Waupelani Drive. Coll said he thought the bus had already turned when his car accidentally struck the back of the bus, police said.

    The bus suffered light damage, police said.

  • Riding bicycles without lights cost two students yesterday: Two male University students were apprehended at 12:06 yesterday morning for riding their bicycles without lights, University Police Services said.

    The two students, whose names were unavailable, were spotted by a University officer on Shortlidge Road near Eisenhower Auditorium, police said. The cyclists attempted to elude police by riding through Parking Lot Blue D behind Eisenhower.

    One cyclist lost control of his bicycle and crashed, police said. The other cyclist came back to the other and both were issued a University bicycle citation, police said.

  • Pennypacker Hall trespasser cited and released Monday: A male University student was cited for criminal trespass and released Monday night after being apprehended in Pennypacker Hall without an escort, University police services said.

    A resident of fourth floor Pennypacker reported that the student, whose name was unavailable, was in the dorm without an escort at 7:42 Monday night, police said. The student told police he was in the hall to drop some things off and to pick up his leather jacket, police said.

    The student admitted he was in the hall without an escort and that he was aware of the University's escort policy, police said.

  • Criminal Mischief: Luggage containing explosives and weapons was reported found on a plane at University Park Airport at 11:09 yesterday morning, University police said.

    The owner of the luggage was not on the flight, police said. An investigation is continuing.

  • Criminal Mischief: A window in the Findlay Hall Rec Room was reported broken sometime between 7 p.m. Jan. 19 and 7:30 a.m. Jan. 22, University police said.

    The window is 80 inches by 35 inches and is valued at $125, police said. Police could not determine what was used to break the window.

  • Criminal Mischief: The rear fenders of a car belonging to Joe Bosche, 478 E. Beaver Ave., were reported scratched while the car was parked in Parking Lot 44 between 9 p.m. Jan. 18 and 1 p.m. Jan. 19, University police said.

    The damage is estimated at $400 and police believe keys or some other metal object may have been used scratch the car.

  • Hit & Run: Nathaniel T. Booker, 1510 Ashwicken Court, reported that his car was struck while it was parked in Parking Lot 80 on Jan. 18 at about 8 a.m., University police said.

    Molding on the passenger side was ripped off Booker's car and there were several slight dents and scratches, police said. No damage estimate was available.

  • Theft: Three textbooks were reportedly taken on separate occasions from a graduate student office in 322 Osmond between August and Jan. 22, University police said.

    The books, belonging to Sabrina Chase, 117 E. McCormick Ave., have a total value of $130. One of the books was taken in August, another in mid-October and the third on Jan. 22, police said.

    Chase told police that she shares the office with five other graduate students and that it is usually unlocked during the day, police said.
