Borough Manager Peter Marshall will discuss State College Borough Government and its effects on students at 7:30 tonight during the Undergraduate Student Government Senate meeting.
"I'm going to describe the organization of the municipal government and talk about financial matters," Marshall said.
Marshall said that speaking at the meeting will be fun and should enlighten students about State College government.
Senate President Ron Marlow, who invited Marshall to speak at the meeting, stressed that senators and students understand the impact of borough council on students' daily lives.
"Student government too often just focuses on what is going on at Old Main," he said. "There is a governing apparatus downtown that makes decisions that affect students.
"USG needs to have an understanding of these to better serve students."
Senators said it is important that Marshall speak at a meeting to inform students about borough government and to encourage more students to become involved.
"I think it is a good opportunity for students to better understand how the borough works and to learn the role they can play in the managing of the borough," said town Senator Don Bowman. "It is important because we do make up the largest part of the borough."
Another senator said he hopes Marshall's visit will encourage a better relationship between students and borough council.
"Hopefully he will be more interesting than my accounting lectures," said town Senator Hank Kohnlein. "It's great that he is coming to one of our meetings, It can help us get a better and closer working relationship with borough council."
University President Bryce Jordan is attending a USG meeting Feb. 13.
