Preserve Peanuts

I am writing in response to Julie Parr's (letter) that appeared on (Jan. 16). She claims that the Fusco Brothers is a better comic strip than Peanuts. She advocates replacing Peanuts with Calvin and Hobbes because Peanuts is a bad comic strip.

I think Peanuts is great! Peanuts can be found in practically all the major newspapers in the nation, unlike the Fusco Brothers. If Peanuts is a bad comic strip, then why has it been popular for decades?

Anyone who thinks Peanuts is a bad comic strip, whether they find it funny or not, is obviously mistaken considering the amazing success Peanuts has enjoyed over the years.

Julie Parr is exactly right when she says that Peanuts contains absolutely no political character, but this is one of its best qualities. Though politics tends to be funny, politics and comic strips do not mix. Peanuts is America at its best!

After having read the Fusco Brothers a few times, I cannot comment on it because I could not find anything nice to say. On the other hand, I would love to see Calvin and Hobbes take the place of the Fusco Brothers, considering Calvin and Hobbes is funny.
