Neophyte review
It was inappropriate that The Daily Collegian assigned a neophyte reporter such as Gregory Roth to review Bob Dylan's recent performance at Rec Hall. I was dissatisfied with his coverage because, along with many others at the concert, he allowed his unfamiliarity with Dylan's song selection, vocal shortcomings and "just stand there and play" style tarnish a solid performance turned in by the hall-of-famer. If Mr. Roth had not been attending his first Dylan show he would have noted that the sound was well tuned and Dylan laid down some inspired guitar licks while singing rather than chanting. This does not always occur when Bob Dylan plugs in. The general point is that a rock concert should not be attended to hear specific songs played just as they were recorded in the studio. Unfortunately, that was exactly the audience Mr. Roth catered to. If any concertgoer agreed with his review, they should have bagged the show and spent their $18 on a CD where Dylan played "Watchtower" the "right" way and a nice poster of him taken in broad daylight.
