-- At noon today through Friday, the Kern Graduate Center lobby and the HUB Fishbowl will house Martin Luther King celebration performances in honor of the late civil rights leader's birthday.

Today in Kern, there will be a vocal and piano duet, and Martin Luther King readings.

Thursday African and Modern Dances will trample the floors of Kern while Martin Luther King works are read at the Fishbowl.

Boriken, a musical group with Puerto Rican Folklore Dancers, will perform at Kern and performances on French horn, flute and piano at the Fishbowl will close out the week.

-- The Meeting, a film about American black civil rights leaders Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr., will be shown in Schwab Auditorium at 7 tonight. The film is free and sponsored by Black Caucus, the Black Studies Program, PSU-NAACP, Paul Robeson Cultural Center and WPSX-TV.

-- Some of the winners of the 1989 Bucks County Film Festival National Independent Film Competition will be shown Thursday at 8 p.m. in 112 Kern Graduate Center.

Primarily avant-garde, the films range from 3 to 25 minutes and come in four categories. The categories of the winners are: Best in Documentary, Best in Narrative, Best in Animation, and Best in Art and Experimental Film. Some of the winning titles include: You Can Drive the Big Rigs, Self Portrait #9 and Suelto.

Viewing is free and open to the public. The program will run approximately 2 and 1 / 2 hours.

-- The Penn State Saxophone Quartet will demonstrate its wide range of artistic styles Thursday in Eisenhower Chapel for the Bach's Lunch Concert Series.

Douglas Bernstein, Lee Ann Burns, Brian Watson and associate professor of jazz / saxophone Dan Yoder will play a Baroque transcription, selections from the Glazunov Quartet, a jazz piece by Phil Woods and three improvisations.

The 20-minute concert is free and will begin at 12: 10 p.m.
