NEWS
 
Two local groups will hold blood drives today in an effort to counteract recent statewide shortages in certain blood types.
 
The HUB Ballroom took on a festive atmosphere yesterday as hundreds of students in search of the Penn State fraternity experience attended the Interfraternity Council's Spring Rush Mixer.
 
Undergraduate Student Government Senate Vice President J. David James was arraigned yesterday on additional theft charges, believed to be a part of a scheme to divert more than $800 from the USG office to a personal bank account.
 
Designed as a fund-raising project for residence hall areas, an on- going plant sale sponsored by residence hall area governments and the Horticulture Club has sparked concern on the part of some downtown stores.
 
This week, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will honor one of its most distinguished national alumni --Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
 
An update on the search for a vice provost for minority concerns may highlight this weekend's University Board of Trustees meeting.
 
 
SPORTS
 
Last year Lynn Crane, top all-around competitor for the women's gymnastics team, was Penn State's sole representative in the NCAAs at Georgia. Earlier, the Lady Lions had given up an NCAA bid when they placed second to Ohio State at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
 
Injuries and oddities have always been regarded as a challenge to men's gymnastics coach Karl Schier.
