Police Log

  • Break-in at Potter Twp. saloon; $1,042 is taken: Burglars broke into the Handlebar Saloon in Potter Township sometime between 1:45 and 7 yesterday morning and took $1,042 in cash from the safe, Rockview state police said.

    Unknown persons removed the money from the safe by prying it open but police could not determine any signs of forced entry into the building. The bar is owned by Dean Breon of Pleasant Gap.

  • Prison officials stop women in drug smuggling attempt: Two women in the visiting room at Rockview State Prison were caught attempting to smuggle illegal substances into the prison at 11 yesterday morning, Rockview state police said.

    One woman was caught with 11 small packets of marijuana concealed in her bra, police said. The other woman was caught with a small plastic container of Jack Daniels whiskey. The women's arrests are pending an analysis of the confiscated materials, police said.

  • Theft: An $850 mountain bike belonging to Joseph Licastro, 220 E. Foster Ave., was taken sometime between Dec. 20 and Jan. 1 from the lobby of his apartment building, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

  • Theft: Items including various pieces of jewelry, a bottle of Polo cologne and a jar full of change, valued at about $480, were taken from the residence of Paul Kurtz and Ann Willard, 818 Bellaire Ave., sometime between Dec. 21 and Jan. 8, State College police said.

  • Theft: Two liquor decanters in the shape of a Corvette were taken from the Wine and Spirit Store on 216 W. Hamilton Ave. yesterday at about noon, State College police said. The decanters are valued at $153.88.

  • Theft: A leather jacket valued at $200 belonging to Brad Rineheimer, 136 Keller St., was reported taken from outside a racquetball court in the Intramural Building sometime between 3:15 and 3:30 Monday afternoon, University Police Services said.

    The jacket was apparently left unattended outside the court, police said.
