Letter to the Editor
Watch your language
Once again I am offended by the apparent lack of discretion used by the editors of The Daily Collegian. Although Mubarak S. Dahir's (column) about the inner struggles of many gay men and lesbians (Dec. 1) was sensitive and, for the most part, well written, I found the use of the "F" word unnecessary and inappropriate. I say "once again" because this is the second time I have seen this word printed in the Collegian, the first time being in a (column) written by another columnist whose name escapes me (I threw the paper out for obvious reasons). But who wrote the (column) is not as much of an issue as is the idea that the Collegian editors allowed this word to be printed (I am assuming that the editors must proofread articles before they go into print). I am not claiming to be innocent of using this type of language but I do not need to read it in my college paper. There must be other words in the English language that can accentuate what was being said in these articles. I realize that the Collegian is a liberal newspaper. But does being liberal mean that you can't have a little class? I guess my father was right. Finesse IS an acquired trait. Editor's Note: This letter was submitted to The Daily Collegian last semester.
