Development of a parking plan was given a priority position on the State College Borough Planning Commission's agenda at last night's meeting.
Chairman Peter Everett said he hopes the commission will "come to some position and comprehensive view" by next fall on a parking plan that would ease parking problems and traffic congestion.
Last year a parking plan was to be carried out by consultants and supervised by the commission. This task, however, was not completed. Next year the commission itself will devise the plan, which is now in its beginning stages.
Before beginning to draft a parking plan, the commission will wait for the results of studies being conducted of the traffic flow and growth of both the downtown and surrounding residential neighborhoods. Completion of these studies is expected in April.
The commission also plans to work on improving communications with the University during 1990, Everett said.
The borough needs a closer liaison with the University, he said, suggesting a University representative be appointed to the commission.
"The notion is, we just need more formal interaction with all parties involved in regional planning," Everett said.
Herman Slaybaugh, a member of the commission, agreed with Everett.
"I don't think it would hurt for this group to begin that liaison," he said.
Everett said he would like the commission to draft policies and strategies for working with the University.
