Sorority to showcase talent at HUB tonight

Delta Sigma Theta sorority's annual talent show will take place tonight in the HUB Ballroom. The show will consist of nine acts and will feature singing, dancing and comedy, said Joyce Cooper, one of the event's organizers.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and will end at about 10 p.m., Cooper said. The admission fee is $3 for adults and students and $1.50 for children under 12.

All money raised at the event will go toward the Delta Sigma Theta scholarship fund, Cooper said. The scholarship fund assists students at the University who show academic ability and financial need, she added.

The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year depending on how much money is generated from the talent show and the Delta Sigma Theta Bowling Party which is a fund-raiser the group holds in the spring, Cooper said.

Last year the organization was able to award three $500 scholarships, Cooper said. She said providing scholarship and service to the community is a sort of underlying theme of the sorority, especially when it is conducting events such as this.

Cooper said the talent show drew a crowd of about 200 to 250 spectators last year, and the sorority is hoping for an even better showing this year.

She added that the event is open to the entire Penn State community and encourages everyone to attend. "The more the merrier," Cooper said. "The more money we make on these events the more money we can give to these students."
