Police Log

  • Pedestrian in critical condition following motorcycle accident: A University student is in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center after being struck by a motorcycle on Shortlidge Road Monday, University Police Services said.

Kevin Andrush of Pittston was flown by life-flight helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center where he is in critical condition suffering from a closed wound to the head, police said. Police said Andrush's condition showed slight improvement yesterday but remains critical.

Witnesses told police that Andrush, who was wearing headphones, started to cross Shortlidge Road from South Halls toward White Building, stepped from the curb without looking and placed himself directly in front of the motorcycle, police said. Andrush was struck by the front wheel of the motorcycle, police said.

Robert Kenney, 625 Wayward Place, was driving his motorcycle north on Shortlidge and could not swerve to avoid Andrush because other pedestrians standing on the curb were in the way, police said.

Police said Andrush was thrown 21 feet from the point of impact and the motorcycle skidded 58 feet after Kenney was thrown to the curb.

Kenney suffered a minor leg injury and was treated at Centre Community Hospital and released Monday, police said.

  • Criminal Mischief: A house and a shed on West Fairmount Avenue were reported shot yesterday, State College Bureau of Police Services said.

Irene Grindall, 1218 Houserville Road, told police that she discovered holes in her bathroom Friday morning made by what appears to be a rifle shell. Police said they could not be specific because whatever caused the holes had come in the shower wall and passed through to the opposite wall where they are lodged.

Richard Winstead, 1210 Houserville Road, reported that he discovered holes in his shed and lawn spreader Monday morning, police said. Winstead told police he did not notice any holes before Monday.

Police could not determine if the two incidents are related because the holes in the shed and the house are different sizes.

Police could not estimate the amount of damage.

  • Criminal Mischief: A small tree was destroyed sometime between Friday and Monday when one of two storm drain covers, reported missing from the east side of Sackett Building, was dropped on it, University police said.

Police said there is no suspect and the other cover is still missing.

  • Theft: A pink and gray 10-speed Schwinn bicycle valued at $100 was taken from a bicycle rack on the loading dock at McElwain Hall sometime between Oct. 19 and Oct. 20, University police said.

The bicycle belongs to Laura Thompson of 230 McElwain, police said.

  • Theft: A gray 10-speed Peugeot bicycle valued at $100 was taken from a garage at the residence of Lyn Cecchini, 331 W. Fairmount Dr., sometime between Friday and Monday, State College police said.
