The softball team combined solid pitching and timely hitting to sweep doubleheaders from St. Joseph's and Rutgers last weekend at Lady Lion Field to clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, scheduled May 12-14 in Piscataway, N.J.
 
The men's lacrosse team has timing. By playing its best game of the season on the same evening it played its best opponent, the team managed to upset heavily favored Hobart, 11-9, in an emotional, action-packed game.
 
The pole vaulters' traditional skull-and-crossbones flag stood stiff in the wind. For the 18th annual Nittany Lion Relays, held this weekend at the outdoor track, the flag is more than a fitting symbol for two days spent battening down the hatches.
 
For most students, finals are just around the corner. But the women's lacrosse team's final exam is not until next month at the NCAAs.
 
Offensive guard Steve Wisniewski became a Cowboy on the first pick of the second round in the NFL draft yesterday. Ten minutes later, he became a Raider.
 
Playing battered and bruised, the men's volleyball team overcame a two-game deficit to George Mason and won the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four.
 
Four Penn State decathletes will travel to the University of Pennsylvania today to compete in the Penn Relays, scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.
 
Although the White squad entered the locker room at halftime with a 14-10 lead, the Blue squad probably had more confidence. After all, Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky was coaching the White. His career Blue-White Game record? Two wins, 18 losses.
 
For two-time Olympic hammer thrower Jud Logan, the goal is 1992 and the Nittany Lion Relays were just a part of his current training for the upcoming season.
 
Leslie Hummer led the parade for the women's track team at the Lady Lion Relays this past weekend by qualifying for ECAC competition in three events.
 
Swirling winds played havoc with the men's golf team in the second round of the Princeton Invitational after the Lions had an excellent first round.
 
The baseball team displayed a Jekylland-Hyde personality in its series with Atlantic 10 Conference foe West Virginia at Morgantown this weekend.
