OTIS elects new officers

Collegian Staff Writer

Off-campus students have new student leaders to call on when they have questions or concerns about housing issues.

The Organization for Town Independent Students chose its new executives last night. OTIS council elected Judith Falce as the new president of the organization in an uncontested race.

"I will put a lot of time and effort into it. I think you can count on me and trust me for next year," Falce said.

She plans to make OTIS stronger during her term as president, she said. Also, she hopes to focus the purpose of the separate inter-OTIS committees to one or two big goals next year, she said. She emphasized the importance of avoiding scattering the organization's efforts in order to be effective, she said.

Don Savoie was elected the new vice president of the organization in a closely contested two-way race. He plans to improve publicity for the organization next year by creating a newsletter telling people about OTIS' services and accomplishments, he said.

Mimi Zaldivar was elected the treasurer of OTIS in an uncontested race. Zalvidar cited her background in accounting as an important asset for the executive post.

The new officers will assume their post in two weeks after a brief transition period with current officers. This period will help acclimate the officers to their new positions.

The new officers will replace current President Sherri Rutolo, Vice President Tony Knific and Treasurer Chris Schloder.
