  • Alleged victim: Pugh Street garage rape never occurred: A 21-year-old State College woman who reported she was raped in the Pugh Street parking garage last month apparently fabricated the story, officials said yesterday.

The State College Bureau of Police Services said the woman, who reported she was raped Feb. 16 at knifepoint by a masked assailant in a stair-well of the garage, admitted Friday that the crime never occurred.

Police would not identify the woman and declined to say why she might have made up the story.

Steven W. Klinger, 32, of 163 N. Ridge St., was arraigned before District Justice Robert Schoff and charged with 624 counts of statutory rape and 624 counts of rape, Bellefonte Police said.

He is in the Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said. No other information regarding the incident was available.

  • Husband hit on head with hoe in domestic scrap with spouse: A Half Moon Township woman who apparently became enraged with her husband during an argument yesterday hit him in the head with a hoe, authorities charge.

Mazie Brown, no age given, reportedly hit her husband Richard with the hoe at their residence along State Road 550 in Half Moon Township, Philipsburg state police reported.

She was charged with simple assault and released yesterday, a police spokesman said.

Her husband was not seriously injured in the incident, police said.

  • Student from Virginia Tech charged with criminal mischief: A Virginia Tech student was charged with criminal mischief and jailed Saturday after a University Physical Plant barricade was found in the back of his pickup truck, authorities said.

Jay R. Renshaw, 19, of 301 Campbell Hall Main, Blacksburg, Va., was arraigned before District Justice Robert Schoff Saturday night, University Police Services reported.

He is in the Centre County Prison in lieu of $150 bail pending a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. on March 31, officials said.

University police said an officer noticed the barricade in Renshaw's truck about 10:30 Saturday night while it was parked in Parking Lot Blue G near Porter Hall. He was apprehended near the truck a short time later.

Police said they were not sure why Renshaw was on campus.

  • No injuries from S.C. mishap; driver cited after collision: No injuries resulted from a two-car collision Saturday evening at the intersection of Sowers Street and Calder Way, officials reported.

Cars driven by Windsor Cousins, 21, 234 E. Hamilton Ave., and Stephen Pozniak, 19, 661 Crandall Drive, reportedly collided after Cousins failed to yield at a stop sign, the State College Bureau of Police Services said.

The right rear door on Pozniak's car was damaged, police said. Cousins was cited for driving with a suspended license.

  • Theft: Four pairs of Calvin Klein blue jeans, one pair of Gabriel jeans and four Penn State sweatshirts belonging to Charles Wall , 724 W.
