  • Head, leg injuries for driver after truck flips on Route 144: A tractor-trailer driver sustained head and leg injuries after his vehicle flipped over on Route 144 yesterday morning, authorities said.

    William Huntington of Bloomsburg struck a guard rail on Route 144 -- south of Rishell Hill in Spring Township -- when the truck's load of copper coil shifted as Huntington attempted to manipulate a left turn, Rockview state police said.

    When the truck struck the guard rail, it flipped onto its roof, police said.

    Huntington remains in fair condition at Centre Community Hospital, a nursing supervisor at the hospital said. He was treated for head and ankle injuries.

  • Borough woman falls victim to Calder Way hat snatcher: A State College woman lost her hat yesterday while walking on Calder Way when an unidentified man snatched it off her head, authorities said.

    Megan Balog, 117 S. Burrowes St., the alleged hat thief's victim, was in the 100 block of West Calder Way when the man took her hat and ran.

    The headgear is described as orange and black felt with several small mirrors decorating it.

    Police say an investigation into the cap caper will continue.

  • Unidentified vehicle forces borough man's car from road: A car driven by a State College man sustained moderate damage Tuesday when it was forced off a campus road by an unknown vehicle, University Police Services said.

    David Francischelli, 341 Toftrees Ave., reported that his vehicle was forced off Pollock Road near the Foods Building by an unidentified vehicle, University police said.

    Francischelli struck the curb as a result of the impact with his car sustaining about $1,000 damage, police said.

  • Theft: A gorilla puppet belonging to Don Brown, no address given, was reportedly taken sometime between Friday and Sunday from Room 11 at the Radio Park Elementary School, 800 Circleville Road, the State College Bureau of Police said. The simian stage support is valued at $50.

    a Theft: Computer equipment valued at $619 was reported taken from the Computer Building sometime Tuesday, University police said.

  • Theft: A purse, wallet, and various items totaling $228 in value were reported taken from the women's locker room in Henderson Building Tuesday, University Police Services said. The items belong to Susan Forman, 500 E. College Ave., police said.
