Dorm residents elect new representatives

Collegian Staff Writer

Dormitory students chose their new leaders yesterday in an election characterized by a small pool of candidates and many uncontested races.

Students voted for a president, vice president and two Association of Residence Hall Students representatives in each area. Depending on area constitutions, some students were able to elect their treasurer, secretary and two Residence Hall Advisory Board representatives. In other areas, these positions are appointed by the executives.

Candidates for Centre, North, and West Halls presidential and vice presidential positions are required to run together as tickets. Candidates for those positions in East, Pollock and South Halls ran separately.

The Centre Halls presidential/vice presidential positions went to Craig Group and Kim Savage in an uncontested election. The new ARHS representatives for Centre Halls will be Kathy Rickabaugh and Lisa Freedman who in a four-way race.

In East Halls, Darryl Bundrige won the two way battle for area president and Andrew Dremann took the vice presidential race. East Halls treasurer will be Denise Haskins and the secretary will be Andrea McAlpine. Both candidates ran uncontested. Also, the two ARHS representatives will be Mike Snider and Rich Tannenbaum.

The uncontested race for the North Halls executive spots went to Mike Ninosky and Andrea Salerno. Marsha Pratt took the treasurer position in a race with two other candidates. The new secretary for North Halls is Helen Lewandowski. Jeff Teuteberg secured one ARHS position, while four other candidates tied for the second slot. Also, Gary Drakas won a RHAB representative seat with 12 votes, while two other candidates tied with four votes for the second slot. All ties will be decided in a run-off in North Halls.

Sherri Shields was elected president of Pollock Halls in a two-way race and Meri Staymates was elected area vice president in an uncontested race. The treasurer election was won by Mike Santo and the secretary position will be filled by Wendy Forrest, but neither candidate faced opponents on the ballot. The new ARHS representatives are Kim Schriver and Georgeann Dumond, who both ran uncontested. The two RHAB positions remain unfilled.

The South Halls presidential race went to Bobby Zoldos and the new vice president is Cynthia Rominiecki. Colleen McCarty was elected to be ARHS representative while the other slot went to Ray Volpatt. There were no candidates for the two RHAB positions.

The Eugene Pfeiffer and David Woodman ticket netted the top executive positions for West Halls. The two ARHS positions went to Cheryl Price and Noelle Shiner in a four-way race.
