Programs geared toward improving safety and increasing crime awareness could improve safety conditions, a University official said.
David Stormer, assistant vice president of Environment and Safety Services, suggested that the Undergraduate Student Government help develop more programs to improve awareness and safety, USG Senator Sean Wilson told the senate last night.
Concern about safety arose most recently when an attempted rape allegedly occurred in East Halls and police released information suggesting the residence of the victim, Wilson said.
An article in the March 13th edition of The Daily Collegian reported that "(the alleged victim) ran into Stone Hall and the suspect fled the scene, police said."
The attacker could assume the victim resides in Stone and attempt another assault, Wilson said.
He suggested that, in addition to programming, increasing police presence and increasing the number of self-defense class sections may help combat criminal assaults.
