Police are investigating possible ties between two armed robberies of convenience stores over the weekend, authorities said yesterday.
Bandits in both cases fled with undetermined amounts of cash from register drawers, the State College Bureau of Police Services said. No one was injured in either incident.
The first incident occurred early Friday morning when a masked man carrying a silver-colored pistol allegedly entered the Uni-Mart at 401 S. Pugh St. and ordered an employee to give him cash from the register, police said.
The suspect escaped on foot after the Uni-Mart employee handed him cash, officials said. The employee was not injured in the robbery, police said.
Police said they discovered clothing behind the store believed worn by the thief.
The man is described as a white male wearing a two-tone brown baseball cap that read 'Support Wildlife, Throw A Party.'
In the second armed robbery, two men entered the Uni-Mart at 825 S. Atherton St. about 4:10 Sunday morning and began looking at items displayed in the store, police said.
One of the men reportedly approached the store's counter, pulled a revolver from under his coat and demanded cash.
"I want your money," the gunman reportedly said as he waved his pistol towards the cash drawer, police said.
The other man continued to look at store merchandise while the other took a small amount of money from the clerk, police said.
The two fled south on Atherton Street after the robbery.
Both men are described as white males in their early to mid-twenties.
Sunday's robbery marks the third armed hold-up of a local convenience store in two weeks. In one of these incidents, the Uni-Mart across from Hills Plaza on South Atherton Street was robbed in the early morning hours. In that robbery, a masked man fled the store with an undetermined amount of cash after threatening the store's clerk with a gun.
Police say although the three robberies may be related, they have not yet determined any connection between them.
