Internationally renowned harpist Harvi Griffin will perform tonight at 8 p.m. in room 112 Kern. The recital, presented by The Kern Graduate Commons, is free and open to the public.

Harvi Griffin has given over 900 concerts in his varied career, including performances throughout the United States, the Far East and Europe, most recently in Vienna, as well as several White House Performances.

Griffin began to study piano at the age of four, and by age 12, was playing various woodwind, string and keyboard instruments. While attending Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Mi., he was first introduced to the harp.

He began his tutelage under Velma Froud there, continued to study under her while at Michigan State University, and Froud is still active in his musical direction. Griffin also studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, and has since worked with Eileen Malone of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

After over 300 performances for the National Association of Campus, Griffin was selected runner-up for the 1988 Campus Entertainer of the Year Award. As a result of his 1987 success in Vienna, he plans to return to Europe for further concerts, television appearances and masters class instruction.
